This medical standard applies to holders of an Air Transport Pilot Licence, Commercial Pilot Licence (other than balloons), Multi-crew Pilot (aeroplane) Licence, Flight Engineer Licence or Student Flight Engineer Licence.
Unless otherwise advised, a Class 1 medical certificate is valid for one year.
This medical applies to holders of a Student Pilot Licence, Private Pilot Licence, Commercial Pilot (Balloon) Licence and Flight Radio Operator Licence. Unless otherwise advised, a Class 2 medical certificate is valid for four years for applicants less than 40 years of age on the day of issue or two years for those aged over 40 years.
This medical standard applies to holders of an Air Traffic Control Licence or and Flight Service Officer.
Unless otherwise advised, a Class 3 medical certificate is valid for two years.
Recreational Aviation Medical
Allows appropriately licenced pilots to exercise the privileges of the recreational pilot licence without the requirement to hold a CASA Class 2 medical.
Unless otherwise advised, a Recreational Aviation Medical is valid 2 years until the age of 65 when validity becomes yearly.
CASA requires tests for Class 1 & 3 medicals that are determined by age and may include hearing, ECG & Blood tests.
It is a requirement that a current ARN is held by the person requiring the Aviation Medical. When booking please advise if you require a class 1, 2 or 3 medical and if it’s an initial or renewal medical.
We conduct the majority of ALL components of the medical in house in ONE VISIT! (ECG, blood tests*, audiograms, spirometry, Urine Drug & Alcohol testing etc.) We have a special arrangement with a local cardiologist for VIP no waiting time assessment and pricing for any ECG Stress Test.
Please note we are NOT an Aviation Ophthalmologist, however we can refer you upon request.

Pre Appointment Checklist
- Prior to your appointment, complete your information on the CASA website
- Make your appointment at HSMC, and confirm your ARN Number, and Class
- Bring Photo ID to all appointments eg driving license
- Bring along any recent test results you may have had
- Bring along any corrective glasses or contact lenses
